Conventions Of Existing Music Videos Of The Alternate Rock Genre:

Cinematography:
In watching other alternate rock videao's (as posted below) it is visible to see that majority of rock video's don't follow conventional film syntax due to the facr that they don't begin with an establishing shot therefore the audience don't immediatley know the setting or location of the video. In many of these vido's however clues are given such as at the begining of 'Blink 182 - Always' there is a panning shot focusing on many objects around a room which gives off the impression we are in an apartment. The 'You Me At Six - Stay With Me' is a good example of how camera angles are used within alternate rock video's. Due to the fast pace and loud beat of the guitar and other instruments within the soundtrack of the video it allows editing to be quicker and more upbeat- therefore using high and low angle shots helps to fasten the pace of the video but also to keep it eye catching and interesting.

Editing:
In watching the video's i previously posted it is clear that alternative rock video's don't necesserily followw an editing pattern. For example the Blink-182 video uses continuity and has a storyline to the vidoe, the You Me At Six video however is very montage based and doesn't have a real sense of a storyline to it, just the same characters and artists used throughout. The All Time Low and Lower Then Atlantis video's use both montage and continuity. One thing i can tell from these video's is that a band performance is always used in them as well as an alternate storyline going on behind or in a spilt screen. All of these video's use cutting to get from shot to shot, they also keep in time with the pace of the music- so if the song speeds up the shots do also. Special effects can be seen in the All Time Low, Lower Then Atlantis and also the Blink 182 which shows that often alternate rock video's do this is ways such as changing the blur or colour of the camera shot, or adding images and illusions onto the video.

Mise En Scene:
The costumes within all of these video;s are very natural and dont stand out from people in every day life. This shows that these music videos are supposed to be realistic and true to everyday life which is shown by the lighting either being daytime or night time depending on the situation within the scene. I have realised that usually to destinguish a difference between the storyline of the music video and the performance of the band their is usualy a subtle difference between both of their lightings to show the audience that one is set as though it is present time and the other is a memory or scenario that is being sung about.

Sound/Form:
All music video'sa re performed to a soundtrack of a song by a certain artist or band. All of these video's are a pre-recorded soundtrack which then have a performance put over them. Music video's usually star the recording artsit lyp-syncing or mime-playing the song of which the video is to in order to give the audience a sense of performance. A storyline is also usually included as an alternative piece of the music video, this sometimes has a short scripted piece which is diagetically said within the music video- however none of the video's which i have posted below include this.
